DNM Is Building Its Founding Team

DNM is entering a new phase of its growth.

What began with a focus on providing independent artists with accessible music distribution is developing into a broader vision: building an ecosystem that brings together the infrastructure, technology, services and opportunities artists need to build sustainable careers.

That vision requires more than expanding the number of releases we handle. It requires building stronger systems, developing new capabilities and creating a team capable of taking DNM into its next stage.

That is why we are now building the DNM Founding Team.

Why We Are Building the Team Now

DNM remains a relatively small organisation, but the scope of what we are working toward has grown considerably.

The next phase will involve expanding our artist base, strengthening our marketing and acquisition capabilities, improving internal operations, developing technology and automation, and exploring new commercial and strategic opportunities.

These are not simply tasks that can be added to an existing workload indefinitely.

At some point, a small core team has to stop trying to do everything itself and begin building the people and structures that can support the organisation at a larger scale.

We have reached that point.

The Founding Team is our next step toward doing exactly that.

What Does “Founding Team” Mean?

The term can be misunderstood, so it is worth clarifying.

The DNM Founding Team does not refer to a new group of cofounders. These are early members of the organisation joining at a stage when many of DNM's functions, systems and processes are still being established.

That distinction is important.

Joining DNM at this stage means entering an organisation where not everything has already been defined. Some processes will evolve. Some systems will need to be built from the ground up. Some responsibilities may grow considerably as the company develops.

For the right people, that creates an opportunity to have a meaningful influence on how DNM operates in the future.

Someone joining a function today may eventually help build the team, systems and processes that support that function at scale.

We Are Looking for More Than Execution

DNM needs people who can execute well. But execution alone is not what we are looking for.

Early stage organisations also need people who can recognise problems, question inefficient processes, propose solutions and take responsibility for outcomes.

We believe good team members should be able to work with direction when direction is necessary, but also operate independently when a problem requires initiative.

That means we value people who are willing to ask:

Can this be done better?

And, more importantly:

How can we make it better?

Not every idea will be implemented. That is normal. Ideas still need to be evaluated for feasibility, relevance and potential impact.

What matters is having people who are willing to think beyond the task immediately in front of them.

The Areas We Are Building

The Founding Team will contribute across several areas of DNM as we develop the organisation.

Operations

Building reliable workflows and systems that can support a growing artist base and increasing operational complexity.

A&R

Identifying promising artists, understanding their potential and helping develop a stronger pipeline of independent talent.

Marketing

Developing DNM's marketing and acquisition capabilities, from brand and content strategy to campaigns and audience development.

Social Media

Building DNM's presence across social platforms while developing a consistent and recognisable voice for the company.

Advertising and Paid Growth

Developing performance driven acquisition strategies through experimentation, measurement and optimisation.

Sales

Building commercial relationships and helping translate DNM's capabilities into sustainable business opportunities.

Technology

Developing the infrastructure, internal tools, automation and systems required to support DNM as it scales.

Finance

Strengthening financial systems, reporting, planning and decision making as the organisation grows.

Legal

Developing the legal processes and frameworks required to support an expanding music ecosystem responsibly.

Business Development

Exploring partnerships, strategic relationships, new markets and commercial opportunities that can expand what DNM is capable of offering.

These areas are not necessarily the complete picture. As DNM grows, new functions and responsibilities will emerge.

That is one of the realities of joining an organisation at an early stage.

Who We Are Looking For

We are not defining the Founding Team solely through academic qualifications, previous employers or years of experience.

Those things can matter, but they do not tell us everything we need to know.

We are particularly interested in people who demonstrate several qualities.

Learning Ability

You do not need to know everything on day one. You do need to be capable of learning quickly, adapting to unfamiliar problems and becoming increasingly effective.

Ambition

We want people who are interested in taking on greater responsibility as they develop, rather than simply completing a fixed set of tasks indefinitely.

Independence

DNM operates remotely. That requires people who can organise themselves, communicate effectively and maintain accountability without constant supervision.

Ownership

Ownership means caring about the outcome, not simply completing the assignment.

If you identify a problem within something you are responsible for, we expect you to care enough to address it.

Curiosity

We value people who question assumptions and look for better ways of doing things.

Calculated Risk Taking

Early stage companies involve uncertainty. We want people who can assess that uncertainty rationally, make informed decisions and act when the potential opportunity justifies the risk.

What Joining Early Actually Means

There is a significant difference between joining an established company and joining one while it is still being built.

At an established organisation, the department may already exist. Processes may already be documented. Reporting structures may already be established.

At DNM, some of those structures are still taking shape.

That can make the work more demanding.

It can also make individual contribution considerably more meaningful.

As DNM grows, responsibilities can grow with it. Functions can become departments. Departments can require teams. Contributors who demonstrate the capability to take on greater responsibility may eventually have the opportunity to build and lead those teams.

However, joining early does not automatically guarantee progression.

Leadership has to be earned through performance, judgement, consistency and the ability to take responsibility at a larger scale.

The opportunity is there. The outcome depends on the individual.

The Reality of Working at an Early Stage Company

We also believe it is important to be transparent about where DNM stands today.

We are not an established corporation with unlimited resources or a large organisational structure.

There will be ambiguity. There will be problems without established solutions. There will be processes that need to be rebuilt when circumstances change.

DNM also cannot currently compete with established companies on every aspect of compensation and resources.

What we can offer is the opportunity to work closely with the people building the organisation, take meaningful ownership, develop practical experience and contribute to systems that can eventually operate at a much larger scale.

For someone looking only for predictability, that may not be the right environment.

For someone who wants to build, it can be.

Building the Organisation Behind the Vision

The next phase of DNM will not be defined only by how many artists we serve or how many releases reach streaming platforms.

It will also be defined by the people who build the systems, technology, relationships and capabilities behind them.

That is why the Founding Team matters.

We are looking for people who want to contribute beyond a job description. People who can take responsibility, think independently, learn quickly and help establish something that is still taking shape.

DNM is still early.

The vision, however, extends considerably beyond where we are today.

The people joining us now will have the opportunity to help shape what that next version looks like.
